The Armament Agency announced that an agreement has been signed on the delivery of 12 brand-new command vehicles for the Abrams MBT units. Rosomak APC would be the base platform here.

This is yet another contract regarding the delivery of the Rosomak APC-based command platform. A similar procurement contract was signed back in October. The Head of the MoD at the time approved an agreement in Nowa Dęba - the said agreement was concluded by and between the Rosomak company, and the Armament Agency and it envisaged delivery of 6 Zawilec command vehicles based on the KTO Rosomak platform.

The Zawilec and other Rosomak command vehicles are expected to work at the division command level. Here, the Rosomak platform would become a base for command vehicles that would be a part of the Abrams MBT battalions of the 18th Mechanized Division. Commissioning of specialist command vehicles would enhance the units« effective command and control capability and also lead to a better cross-systems integration, between national, and Abrams-specific command assets. This is aligned with the doctrine associated with the employment of the Abrams MBT, as it assumes that the Abrams battalions are to remain highly autonomous.

Meanwhile, the use of a wheeled platform is dictated by the fact that the industry, currently, does not offer a tracked vehicle of proper specification, certified for using the required communication systems and series manufactured. Maybe, in the future, the Rosomak-based vehicles would be complemented, or replaced, by equivalent platforms based on the Borsuk IFV, or the HIFV.
