The British industry offers world-class solutions that may be easily implemented within the GRYF, MIECZNIK or CZAPLA programmes - as it was stated by the Vice-President of the PGZ Group, Maciej Lew-Mirski, participating in a meeting held between the representatives of the Management Board of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ S.A.) and the Parliamentary Undersecretary of State at the British MoD, Harriett Baldwin.

According to the information released by the Polish Armaments Group, the meeting was focused on a discussion pertaining to the offer created by the British industry within the Narew programme, UAV-related initiatives, cyber-security issues ad options of cooperation in building and equipping the vessels for the Polish and Royal Navies.

The British have confirmed their readiness to expand their cooperation in the area of transfer of technology, required to manufacture a SHORAD system in Poland. As it was stressed by Baldwin, the British companies acknowledge for numerous opportunities of establishing bilateral collaboration with their Polish partners, as well as for joint offering of the newly developed solutions jointly, with the PGZ group, for the Polish Armed Forces and for the foreign markets. Hariett Baldwin also assured that London remains ready to collaborate, regardless of the evolving EU legal structure and the economic relations between the EU and the UK.

PGZ Group is interested in numerous solutions that remain within the portfolio of the British industry. The Group hopes to establish a tight cooperation with the British in the areas of SHORAD systems and ATGMs (involving the MBDA company) and in the domain of helicopters destined to be used by the Special Operations Component and by the Navy (involving the Leonardo Helicopters company). Moreover, PGZ is also looking forward to collaborate in the area of surface combatants and their equipment, and within the scope of overhauls and manufacturing of engines and power-packs, together with the Rolls-Royce company.

Throughout the recent months we have been involved in a number of fruitful meetings with the representatives of the British government and defence industry, e.g. during the DSEI exhibition and in Farnborough. London has expressed a huge interest in an option of cooperating with the PGZ company, among other projects, within the NAREW programme which bears a key relevance for further development of the missile technologies, where we are aiming at obtaining a full autonomy. Obviously, this is not the sole area covered during our talks, as the British industry offers world-class solutions that may be easily implemented within the GRYF, MIECZNIK or CZAPLA programmes.

The PGZ’s Vice-President also added that the opportunity to establish industrial cooperation is also interesting in case of the works on building the new generation British Type 31E frigates.

Polish-British Cooperation

PGZ also recalls the fact that thanks to the cooperation established by and between the HSW S.A. facility and GEC Marconi (BAE Systems) back in 1999, a license has been acquired to manufacture turret modules with a barrel for the 155 mm Regina sph system developed at the time which, known as the Krab howitzer, has been procured by the Polish Armed Forces at the end of 2016. Polish and British defence industries are also working together in the domains related to naval, land and air platforms. This may be exemplified by a programme of overhauling, modernizing and delivering a training package for the SA-6 Gainful (2K12 Kub) and SA-8 Gecko (9K33 Osa) SAM systems.

On 28th November 2016 the PGZ S.A. company, and Rolls-Royce PLC and Rolls-Royce Polska Sp. z o.o. companies, in presence of the Parliamentary Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Development, Jadwiga Emilewicz, have signed a framework agreement on cooperation. The goal of the memorandum is to examine and assess the potential scope of collaboration in the maritime, civil and military aviation, propulsion systems and energy sectors. The meeting has also been used as an opportunity to discuss the progression within the scope of cooperation implementation.
